Lilith

Lilith is perhaps one of the most misinterpreted and misrepresented Goddesses in history.  Known to Christians and Jews as a demon, a succubus, it was said that she turned to evil when she was cast from the Garden of Eden and Adam’s side.

Lilith’s true beginnings in human history come as she departed the Garden of Eden.  Her leaving was her choice, rather than some sort of punishment, and stemmed from the fact that she had completed her responsibilities and contract as Adam’s wife.  It was to be a time of change.  A time of choice.

For thousands of years she bore many children (our fairy and elfin half brothers and sisters, for example) and before the time of humans was to come, Lilith grew both tired and cautious.  Each race that has occupied the Earth’s fertile grounds has learned, grown and explored its evolutionary path with no minor disruption as a new race began to make the planet its home.

Lilith, in her wisdom, decided that in order to ease the coming transition, she would step out of the Garden and become the mediator and guardian on behalf of the races of children she bore with Adam.

This, she hoped, would support both the humans and her children, giving them an opportunity to work in harmony, with understanding, from the beginning.

Eve stepped in to Lilith’s place, becoming Adam’s second wife, and Lilith took her new place as Queen and Protector of the Elementals.

Initially, the transition was smooth, as everyone had hoped.  But as humans began to flex their muscles and explore their evolutionary path, they saw little need in it for Lilith’s children.  Humans became disrespectful and dangerous, refusing to work with the other races and even mounting attacks on their half brothers and sisters as well as Lilith’s other charges (dragons and unicorns, for example).

With mediation a failing hope, Lilith took up her role as the Protector of these beings quite seriously and mounted her own attack on warring humans as a response and warning.

Up for the challenge, humans continued to build ranks and fight with their elemental brethren, losing sight of the Light and losing hope of peace or cooperation.

Lilith ordered her children to leave the physical dimensions, both hiding from and protecting humans in this single sacrificial step.  There would be no more attempts at mediation or communication for thousands of years.

The Elementals continued their service to the planet silently, stepping through the veils to work with their personal charges:  the forests, plants, stones, waters and all of the elements that make the Earth beautiful and strong.

Seen only by those with pure hearts and intentions, they were safe from human mistreatment for generations.  It is only recently, with the dissipation of the first veil, that humans have been given a second chance to believe and SEE these beings again.

During this quiet and veiled time, Lilith taught some humans how to work with the Earth and her deepest secrets of creation, healing, abundance and joy.  She worked primarily with the medicine women and men, giving them secret teachings and nurturing their connection to the Earth and some of her Elemental charges.

It is this continued labor of love and respect that has made her the Queen of Witches and Earth Magick.

Even with the veil gone, Lilith is still the Elemental’s fierce Protector and carefully monitors the slowly building relationships with humans, once again keeping both sides safe.

Sadly, it has been so long since we can remember physical interactions with the Elementals, that even when they make themselves fully visible, our eyes are challenged to see them.  And so we work to reawaken our eyes and they continue their work in service to the Earth.

And Lilith keeps a watchful eye on all of us.

Those who are initiated in her lineage are expected to honor the Earth, Elementals, Humans and all beings that share this planet as a matter of every day practice.  We are to live her teachings in the ancient shamanic ways and serve the Light as we seek balance, harmony and wisdom progressing on our evolutionary journey.

Lilith asks us to worship as God asked Adam and Eve to worship.  Not in the form of religion, for Wicca is an individual and joyful path, but in the form of living and honoring all forms of life itself.  In this approach, communities can be formed without dogma and hypocrisy, but acceptance of others and service to the Light!

Best known in its European roots, this wiccan lineage was born with humanity and will continue until human evolution has been completed.

Journey well and live in Joy!

Blessings Be!
Elizabeth
